Is tourism more important than the social living environment of people? Angelista explores this question with photo compositions in collage form. In the photos, we see places in Curaçao that have fallen into disrepair, locations that are overlooked by the average tourist. Yet this is part of the actual reality of Curaçao, where a mixed group of island residents live on or around these places. The cut-out shapes in the different layers of the photos reveal urban landscapes, sometimes intertwined behind the contours of people. The context of the environment is not explicitly shown, nor are the faces of the portrayed individuals, but the spirit of the people does leave its mark on the composition and the landscape.
